If you feel inspired to become a nurse and currently hold a bachelor’s degree in another field, Fairfield University’s Accelerated Second Degree Nursing (ASDNU) program can help you answer the call to care.
In as few as 15 months of study with our experienced faculty, you can develop the social awareness, critical thinking skills, values, and aesthetic sensibility you need to prepare for the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN) and become a registered nurse. Plus, as a BSN graduate, you’ll have established the foundation you need to lead as well as care.

The ASDNU program at Fairfield University in Austin offers comprehensive clinical preparation for your new career in nursing. Over the course of this 15-month accelerated BSN program, you’ll develop hands-on patient care skills, gain an understanding of how to apply evidence-based research in practice, and develop your ability to collaborate and lead in health care teams.
You will complete a total of 60 credits of nursing coursework with us.

Dr. Robin Cook has worked in maternity and newborn nursing for more than 28 years. She holds a BScN from Queen’s University at Kingston in Ontario, Canada; an MSN from Texas A&M University at Corpus Christi; and a PhD from Texas Woman’s University. She has been an educator for 14 years, and her research interests include diversity, equity, and inclusion in maternal care settings.
Megan Nava has been a nurse for over 15 years, working in a variety of healthcare settings. Her primary area of interest is in adult medical-surgical nursing. Megan is currently on the Academy of Medical-Surgical Nursing (AMSN) Program Planning Committee which helps to develop, coordinate and facilitate the annual AMSN yearly conference.
Sebastian MacKenzie provides administrative and IT support to Fairfield University’s Austin campus. He holds a bachelor of arts degree in political science with a minor in legal studies. Sebastian is also a trained vocalist with a wide range of experience in music performance.
Caitlin Rowlette is a faculty specialist in Austin, Texas in the second-degree nursing program. Her primary focus lies within adult health, where she has gained valuable experience through seven years of service in float pool for the central Texas hospitals. Caitlin has also showcased her expertise by presenting at the Texas Healthcare Association Summer Conference and contributing to the nursing community.
Kristie Wilson has more than 20 years of diverse pediatric nursing experience. She received her MSN with APRN status from the University of Texas at Austin. About halfway through her nursing career, she transitioned to academia while remaining active in clinical practice as a board-certified pediatric nurse practitioner. Her focus on pediatric healthcare extends to guiding students as a clinical preceptor and integrating the latest clinical practices into her teaching methodologies.
Christina Trezza is a nurse leader with over 30 years of healthcare experience. She holds a Master’s in Nursing Leadership and is pursuing a PhD in Nursing Education with a focus on cultural competence, which aligns with her commitment to foster social justice and prepare culturally competent healthcare leaders.
Hunter D'Amour holds a Bachelor of Science in Audio Engineering and has worked as an audio engineer since 2022. Hunter is also a musician, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist of 15+ years.
